I’m not sure there is a more common theme in the Bible than the fact that God gives grace to the humble and opposes the proud. This pride which He hates often manifests itself as grumbling/complaining/whining, which never goes over well with our Heavenly Father. Grumbling, complaining and whining usually mean that we didn’t get our way, and our flesh is “acting out.” YET, there is another way to live. The Bible teaches over and over that THANKFULNESS is the better way. It requires absolute death to our flesh, pride and personal comfort some of the time, and places us in a low position of humility where we understand that every good and perfect gift actually comes from the hand of a God who loves us and gave His Son for us. He gives His grace/favor to the humble. Let us all endeavor to be in that position all the days of our lives…
“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!” (Psalm 107:1)
“I will give to the LORD the thanks due His righteousness, and I will sing praise to the Name of the LORD, the Most High.” (Psalm 7:17)
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God is Messiah for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Phillippians 4:6)
And let the peace of Messiah rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” (Colossians 3:15)
