Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.  It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.  Proverbs 3:5-8

If you’ve been in church much you’ve heard this, likely even have it memorized to some degree. I believe v. 8 is wrapping up what has been said in previous verses. #1 – Trust in the LORD, not half-heartedly. ALL your heart. #2- DO NOT lean on your own understanding.  This is huge.  How often do we completely lose our peace because we’re trying to grasp something that is outside of what we can understand.  Relationships are hard, we don’t see eye to eye with certain people, or politics are too wicked or culture is crazy beyond what seems imaginable. In those moments, instead of trying to lean on what is not there, we trust in the LORD with ALL our hearts.  #3- in ALL our ways, we acknowledge Him, meaning that we’re taking every matter to Him, submitting to Him in all things and asking Him to act and intervene and help, and you know what He does? He makes the path straight. I’ve experienced it thousands of times, there seems to be NO way something will work out, and if you acknowledge the LORD in it, just wait and see.  #4- Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Enough said, right? God knows more than us. Period.  Instead, Fear Him and turn yourself AWAY from every form of evil.  There is evil at every turn in the day which we live, TURN AWAY FROM IT, get rid of it, reject evil in every form.  Not sure if something is evil?  Pray!! Ask God to clarify what is Holy & what is evil, and read the book of Deuteronomy, you’ll find out a lot of what God calls evil in a hurry, and also what He calls life & blessing.  To some degree, everyone needs healing & refreshment, these are some amazing places to begin receiving what you need according to God’s Word!
