What is it that makes you feel comfortable around another person? What comes to my mind is this: knowing someone has been somewhere I’ve been…common ground. For example, my husband and I are from west Texas, and we love meeting people from that area because we can automatically relate. Have you ever thought about the fact that God sent Jesus to this earth for that same reason? He can relate to us. We can relate to Him. These verses in the book of Hebrews explain that a little further:
Hebrews 4:14-16 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Grace and mercy are things I want to be first in line if they’re being offered. I don’t know about you, but I personally NEED God’s grace and I need His mercy! The Bible tells us that God provides those things for us in His Son, Jesus. When we know Jesus, when we embrace Jesus, when we say “yes” to Him as our Lord, as the only High Priest in our lives…it changes everything!!! We can trust Jesus because He was here, He not only walked on the earth as a man, but He also lived His life on earth completely sinless and overcame death! Luke chapter 4 tells all about Jesus going through severe trial and temptation while He fasted for 40 days, and every single time He was tempted, He turned away from sin. Through the fact that Jesus lived a perfect life, died, and then 3 days later got up from the grave alive, He opened the door for us to make it to God and be completely forgiven. What an awesome thing!!! So, any one of us can go freely and boldly to Him today. He invites us to receive His grace and mercy, and the greatest part is that it’s a FREE GIFT. All we need to do is take it. God made a way for us to have help when we need it most…
