If you’ve ever been to one of our Tuesday night workshops, you know where I’m going with this! I believe that enriched white and wheat flour may be one of the most toxic and dangerous foods to our health in America today. I am a HUGE proponent of grinding your own flour, using organic wheatberries, and leaving the “enriched” stuff alone and eating nothing that is made with it! This would include MOST processed foods in the store. I want to invite you to begin reading labels and notice how many pre-packaged items contain “enriched” flour. The word enriched should be indicating something superior or better, this is NOT the case with flour, it’s so much worse because the nutrients are literally extracted/sifted out and then synthetic vitamins and minerals are added back, but in miniscule amounts compared to what was taken. When you’re looking at labels, look for items that just plainly say “wheat flour” instead of “enriched wheat flour.”
But that’s not all you need to look for. If it’s a wheat or corn product, you need to find the “organic” label on it, or just say no. Why? Because most grains in America are sprayed with Round-up (glyphosate is the active, highly-toxic chemical) for weed control during the growing season, and again in order to harvest them. Glyphosate exposure has been linked to 40+ different diseases according to Toxic Legacy, a book by Stephanie Seneff. Primarily she notes that Glyphosate kills our gut bacteria, interrupts our hormones, creates “leaky gut”, and pulls vital minerals out of our bodies leading to all manner of dys-function. There are reasons other countries (like Italy) outlaw it!! Ask anyone who’s travelled overseas & we’ll all tell you the bread there doesn’t affect us the same way.
Choose organic, non-enriched flour products only OR make your own bread!
