Yehovah Nissi (The LORD our Banner), Yehovah Shalom (The LORD our Peace), Yehovah Yirah (The LORD Provides; commonly prounounced in English: Jehovah Jireh, but there are no “J’s” in Hebrew, they are “Y’s”)…these are all common names of God from the Hebrew Scriptures.  I want to share with you perhaps my favorite as of the past year or so, which is from Psalm 121.

Psalm 121 is one of the Psalms of Ascent, including Psalms 120-134.  The Israelites sang these when they made their ascent up to Jerusalem to worship the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob.  YHVH, the 4 Hebrew letters Yud, Heh, Vav, Heh, most commonly pronounced Yehovah or Yahweh is the Name of God.  In verse 5 it says in the Hebrew, “Yehovah Shomrecha,” which means – Yehovah your keeper. Shomrecha’s root word is ‘shomer’ which is the same word used for the job God gave Adam in the Garden of Eden, he was to keep it.  It’s the same word He used when He gave His commandments to Moses, the ones we are to guard/keep.  He Himself is our Keeper and we are to keep His commandments.  Psalm 121 describes how we are to lift our eyes unto the hills, and where does our help come from?  Yehovah, the maker of heaven and earth.

He protects and He guards.

My oh my, more than ever do we need to call upon His Name, The LORD our Keeper, to keep us from all evil.  There is plenty in the world, much more than we even know about. But God, the maker of heaven & earth is Yehovah our Keeper – are you kept by Him?  Do you know Him and have you given your life to Him through His Son, Yeshua (Jesus); and if you have given Your life to Him – are you walking with Him closely enough that you can be kept by Him?  Or have you strayed away? Now is the time, today is the day, repent & return to Him.

Read & meditate on Psalm 121 today:

He Watches Over You

Psalm 121

A Song of Ascents.
I will lift up my eyes to the mountains—from where does my help come?
My help comes from Yehovah, Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip. Your Keeper will not slumber.
Behold, the Keeper of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.
Yehovah is your Keeper. Yehovah is your shadow at your right hand.
The sun will not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
Yehovah will protect you from all evil. He will guard your life.
Yehovah will watch over your coming and your going from this time forth and forevermore.
